Limbo (1999)

Those vibes you get after waking up from a nightmare: the lingering deep traces of horror and anguish to which follows a strange comfort and feelings of relief, all that is quite similar to this SOV directed by Tina Krause. There is a thin veiled plot but the ambiance is quite enthralling, a lot of demonic industrial type vibes and some dreamy elements.

Seedy bars, body horror, dead bodies and a protagonist who seems to have a psychic or spiritual link with evil forces. This SOV experimental horror ressonates on a deep level, one of the dark recesses of the soul or the Shadow Self.

Non-linear storytelling based on strong visuals and some influences by David Lynch, an influence Tina Krause says makes perfect sense since Lynch was her favorite director.

I got this blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome and it was released by AGFA and Bleeding Skull. I also watched the movie with the commentary track by Tina Krause and she explains the motivation behind making Limbo, namely the oversaturation of boring and uninspired slashers with T&A which Krause calls slasher porn. She wanted to make something devilish and original which I think she managed to do.
